CO-OP CONTINUES CONVERSION TO ELECTRONIC MAPPING On Monday, July 21, crews from Lamar Technical Services and Fayette Electric Cooperative began collecting the Global Positioning System coordinates in the areas served by the La Grange substation. These areas include Ellinger, Rutersville, Oldenburg, High Hill Creek Rd., Chaparral Ranchetts, Nechanitz, Mullin’s Prairie, Park, Rabb’s Prairie, and areas north of La Grange along Hwy 77. They will be using the latest technology to record the precise location of every power pole, underground line, electric meter and other devices located in these areas. The cooperative has contracted with Lamar Technical Services, Inc. to provide contract labor to assist with this project. Personnel will be wearing yellow safety vests with FEC printed on the front and back of the vests. The personnel walk the lines as they record the GPS coordinates and place tags on each pole. Vehicles will display the Lamar Technical Services and Fayette Electric Cooperative logos. Data collection has been completed in areas served by the Flatonia, Plum, Riverside, Schulenburg and Weimar substations according to Gary Don Nietsche, general manager of Fayette Electric Cooperative. Members living in the areas where data will be collected are encouraged to contact the Engineering Department at Fayette Electric Cooperative if they have any questions or concerns by calling 968-3181 or toll-free at 1-800-874-8290.
